Gongbi Hua

Gongbi hua means meticulous brush painting in Mandarin Chinese.  Originating in the Han Dynasty the technique depicts realistic portrayal of flowers, landscapes or narratives.  Detailed line work is accomplished with a brush and ink on sized silk.  Next multiple washes of color  add value and shading.  I learned Gongbi painting from Rosemary Chang, in Beijing, China during my 5 year stay there.  This exquisite and ancient method taught me brush control and patience.
